The mission of the Jersey City Police Department is to work in partnership with all citizens to address the community's changing public safety needs, to preserve the peace, to reduce fear, to enforce laws and to provide for a safe and positive environment. The Department is committed to preserving and improving the quality of life in Jersey City through the courteous deliver of comprehensive, proactive problem-solving efforts and public safety services.
In order to fulfill its mission and meet its obligations to the citizens of Jersey City, the department responds to calls for service, provides proactive problem-oriented policing and personalized service to the community. The city is geographically divided into four patrol districts. District commanders maintain an "open door" policy towards residents and businesses alike.
