JERSEY CITY, NJ – Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy will announce in a press conference on Wednesday, February 16, 3:30 PM, at City Hall, First Floor, his endorsement of Councilpersons-At-Large Peter Brennan and Mariano Vega to fill the Council-At-Large seats in his ticket for the upcoming May election.
Councilman-At-Large Brennan was born and raised in the Downtown section of Jersey City. Brennan has been a businessman for more than 32 years in the Greenville section. Brennan’s business involvements include being the Executive Vice President of Brennan’s Transportation and Warehousing Company and owner-operator of Soda City Warehouse and Distribution Center among others. Brennan was elected Councilman for Ward A in 2001. Brennan is also the Vice-Chair for the Hudson County Democratic Organization.
Councilman-At-Large Vega is a respected community leader who was first elected to the City Council in 1997. He founded the Liberty Soccer Club, the International Recreation and Exchange Program, and introduced snow skiing to many inner-city children through his creation of the Vega ski clinic. Vega carried the Olympic torch as it passed through Jersey City on its way to the Atlanta Olympics during the summer of 1996. Vega was born in Naguabo, Puerto Rico and has lived in Jersey City for over 50 years.
Mayor Healy had vowed to restore faith in city government by putting an end to the political infighting that has plagued Hudson County politics for years. The Mayor has proven quite successful in bettering relations with state, city, and federal representatives of all factions, and hopes to continue to unify the political climate here in Jersey City.
