JERSEY CITY, NJ -On Saturday, April 30th, at 10 am, Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy, the Jersey City Housing Authority (JCHA), and various local and state officials will attend the groundbreaking ceremony of the Pacific Court Townhouses, at 220 Pacific Avenue. Representatives from local community groups and various project partners will also be present.
Pacific Court Townhouses, a mixed-income family development of 72 attractive “City Townhouses,” will continue the neighborhood revitalization begun by the Lafayette Senior Living Center, a state-of-the-art senior facility that is now fully occupied with 82 seniors. Pacific Court Townhouses and the Lafayette Senior Living Center are part of the Jersey City Housing Authority HOPE VI Revitalization Plan for the Lafayette Gardens and Morris Canal/Lafayette Park neighborhood.
The HOPE VI Revitalization Plan program objectives include the end of isolation of low-income families and seniors living in poverty-concentrated housing “projects”, improving housing choices, and ensuring that residents of Lafayette Gardens have opportunities to participate in the economic growth of Jersey City’s waterfront revitalization. The Pacific Court Townhouses is the first off-site phase of the HOPE VI Revitalization Plan, which celebrates the best of traditional urban design in a location bordering the Hudson Bergen Light Rail, close to Liberty State Park, and near the commercial corridors of Communipaw and Pacific Avenues.
“I am pleased with the partnerships that we have in place to ensure the revitalization of the Lafayette community,” said Mayor Healy. “I am committed to see that development be experienced by neighborhoods all over Jersey City and not be limited to the waterfront.”
Funding for the Pacific Court Townhouses was made possible through various sources, including the Department of Housing & Urban Development HOPE VI Program, the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs Housing Program, the NJHMFA Low Income Housing Tax Credits, and the Thrift Institution Community Investment Corporation Mortgage. Michaels Development Company is the JCHA’s private sector development partner.
