JERSEY CITY - Mayor Glenn D. Cunningham will honor Corporal Ramon Aponte, a Marine
who recently returned from Iraq, with a citation during a City Hall ceremony at 10 a.m.
Tuesday, November 25, 2003.
Aponte, a lifelong resident of Jersey City and a graduate of Hudson Catholic High School,
enlisted in the Marine Corps immediately following graduation. He served in the combat zone in
Iraq and was routinely under fire.
"Corporal Aponte defended our rights as Americans, upholding liberty and freedom while
putting his own life at risk," Mayor Cunningham said. "He served his country with honor and I
am proud to say he hails from Jersey City."
Like Mr. Aponte, all returning Jersey City residents have been honored by the mayor for their
courage and bravery in Iraq./////
