"DESTINATION CITY" ANNOUNCES INITIATIVE
Jersey City: New Jersey's Shining Star Launches Tourism Office

JERSEY CITY---Mayor Glenn D. Cunningham, in conjunction with the New Jersey Commerce and Economic Growth Commission, is hosting a complimentary breakfast nosh 8:30 a.m. Friday, April 2, 2004, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, 2 Exchange Place to announce the city's first office on arts and tourism.

Guests from the travel, trade, business, and arts and culture communities will be in attendance to partner in this unique venture, which will "Bring Jersey City's hidden treasures" to the rest of the world.

"Jersey City and the role it played in a great number of nationally historic events makes it a destination location in and of itself," Cunningham said. "However, if you combine our distant history with our recent renaissance, and the growth of our very own artists community, Jersey City is the place for people to visit, start a business and raise a family."

The Council on Arts and Tourism, C.A.T., is the first such venture initiated by the city to focus solely on promoting and marketing the full spectrum of the city's destination assets and special events. The office, which will run out of the Jersey City Economic Development Corporation, will rely on input and partnering with representatives from the community and the artist and business sectors.

The breakfast will be followed by a 12-minute in-house featurette on Jersey City, and greetings from State Commerce Commissioner, the Rev. Dr. William Watley, Cunningham, city planner Bob Cotter and CEO Gene Nelson of the JCEDC. To RSVP call( 201) 547-5758 or 201 3337797, ext. 26.///
