Mayor Cunningham and Councilwoman Richardson to Help `Clean the Drive' in Annual MLK Spring Cleaning Event

JERSEY CITY - Mayor Glenn D. Cunningham and Councilwoman Viola S. Richardson, through her civic association, are urging city residents to take part in this year's `Clean the Drive' event which will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 24, 2004 all along Martin Luther King Drive.

The `Clean the Drive' event is being held this year one day before the annual Martin Luther King Parade and with hard work and dedication, the drive will be sparkling for the floats, marchers and musicians as they make their 16th MLK processional, Cunningham said.

"We will provide the trash bags and brooms, but we need the residents to come out and work together to get the job done," Mayor Cunningham said. "By making the Drive and its sidewalks shine we are making our community shine."

The starting point for this year's `Clean the Drive' day is 153 Martin Luther King Drive, where participants will pick up cleaning supplies, Richardson said.

"This is about people coming together to accomplish something that will benefit them and their community," Councilwoman Richardson said. "Martin Luther King, Jr. taught people to take pride in themselves and to work for good and for change, and by helping to clean the Drive, residents will be doing just that."

In addition to the Mayor and Councilwoman Richardson's Civic Assocation, this year's `Clean the Drive' event is sponsored by the Jersey City Incinerator Authority, the Jersey City Branch of the NAACP, the Concerned Citizens Coalition, Horizon, Molding Leaders/Youth Poets, and several local merchants.////////
