The S5 million project, being built by Highland Port Development
Corporation, Inc., will consist of 12 two-family homes at Monitor Street
near the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail line.
Cunningham, who broke ground earlier this week on housing in the city's
artist district, said he's pleased to see the Johnston Avenue development
move forward and that the community has had a say in the process.
"One of the primary goals of my administration has been bringing the
success of development on the waterfront into the city's neighborhoods,"
Cunningham said. "I am pleased to see that process continue."
Construction will begin immediately on the project and the move in date for
new tenants is scheduled for early spring 2004, developers said.
JERSEY CITY - In his continued push to bring residential and commercial
development to the city's neighborhoods, Mayor Glenn D. Cunningham
broke ground this afternoon on the first new market rate housing in the
Lafayette section in 40 years.
