My fellow Americans and Jersey City residents, Good Evening.
When my administration took office in July of 2001, I outlined three main goals for my administration.
First, I wanted to make Jersey City safer.
Second, I wanted to continue the development of our wonderful Gold Coast, but also start development in our forgotten neighborhoods.
And Third, I wanted to improve the quality of life for all residents while holding the line on property taxes,
I am proud to announce today that for the second year in a row, our Police Department is fighting crime like never before. It has also begun a transformation that will enable our Police Officers to use cutting edge technology to protect us from threats, both local and foreign. And we
are now hiring 60 new police officers.
Our Fire Department is also being upgraded, with a fleet of new fire-trucks and 50 new firefighters, And we are finalizing plans to renovate the firehouse at 2 Bergen Avenue, and proceeding with plans to build two new fire-stations in the southern part of Jersey City.
Development is continuing along our Gold Coast with $2.5 Billion in new construction. New housing projects are sprouting up in our neighborhoods, and soon we will see the first new development project in Journal Square in 20 years.
And, for the second year in a row, Jersey City has passed a balanced budget with no property tax increase.
Ladies and Gentleman, Jersey City is stronger than two years ago, and our best days are coming.
