The Division of Traffic and Street Maintenance is responsible for traffic control devices and roadway markings and also maintains and repairs roadway surfaces throughout the city.

The division has jurisdiction over a number of activities that directly affect businesses, including:

• Issuing permits for parking, dumpsters, auto burglar alarms and driveways
  
• Regulating any activity that interferes with the flow or safety of vehicular traffic by issuing permits for street closings for public and civic events or construction zones.
  
• Developing and promulgating regulations designating loading zones
  
• Reviewing plans submitted to the planning board and board of adjustment and making recommendations relative to traffic and transportation issues
