The Division of Zoning is charged with enforcing the Zoning Ordinance, based on the city's Master Plan.

The division provides such services as:

• Monitoring areas of the city to assure compliance with provisions of the Zoning Ordinance
  
• Investigating complaints from citizens, block associations or other community groups, and City and State agencies
  
• Responding to inquiries from developers, architects, realtors, apparaisers, mortgage loan companies, contractors and the general public
  
• Investigating sites for the proper licenses for special uses such as parking lots, auto sales lots, repair shops and taverns
  
• Scrutinizing property use with particular attention to parking concerns, illegal conversions, encroachment on city land, and other illegal uses that have a negative impact on the city
